Top 100 Golf Courses 2020

So over the last couple of years I have looked at golf courses that had been voted as one of the top courses in the UK and Ireland with the thought process of trying to use this information to come up with a variation of the list – this was quite extensive as I looked back on previous lists from different publications and websites. However it has all been done before and I don’t think I would be able to give any fresh information that isn’t already out there from publications like Golf Monthly, Top100.com, Today’s Golfer etc. and I feel that good blogs need to contain original material and be unique as best as possible. Added to that my Top 100 courses could be judged on different aspects than other publications I wanted to change it and make it more for me.

I then decided that what I was do is focus purely on the UK and exclude Ireland because I know that I won’t be playing any courses in Ireland due to a lack of a passport (with two kids under 5 it is likely that I will be holidaying in the UK for a couple of years at least!). Having given it further thought I need to be realistic with my selection and choose the courses that I feel will be courses I could play based on my where I live which is where the idea was born.

At the turn of 2020 I decided to do a Top 100 list of courses with the stipulation being that they need to be within a 90 minute drive from my house as I felt that this was as far as I would travel for a round of golf on a regular basis. I managed to list and rank the courses before Easter and was going to release this body of work then. However,

The hope is that after I announce my Top 100, I will be more focused in 2021 and it will give me better ideas of courses to go and visit and then I will repeat this on a regular basis to see whether I agree with it or whether there is room for other courses or changes in the order that we currently have. I have ranked them using some of the publications that exist as well as other bloggers recommendations. So this edition is mainly other people’s opinions and I hope to address this and make it more my own moving forwards. I also hope that it become a community thing and as people play courses close to where I live they will give me feedback and suggest new entries and ideas that perhaps I have ranked a course differently to where they feel it should go.

So here it goes – my Top 100 courses 2020.
